I was able to test drive several 2011 Lexus CT200h trims at a recent media event held in Palm Springs, California. All CT200h's are equipped with a 134-horsepower Lexus Hybrid Powertrain system that can go from 0-60 in 9.8 seconds. The eco-kudos on the Ct 200h are long: The design incorporates numerous energy saving and environmentally-conscientious measures such as LED lighting, a lightweight energy-efficient audio system amplifier with bamboo charcoal speakers, and the use of bio-sourced materials. Price is yet to be determined, but Lexus states the CT200h will be the most affordable Lexus in the lineup.

The CT stands for "Compact Touring." Lexus positions the lexus CT200h next to the Audi 3, Volvo C30 and BMW 1-Series; however, the styling is more reminiscent of a Mazda3. Lexus is careful not to dub it a hatchback, although it is a 5-door vehicle. Lexus hopes to capture an entirely new group of buyers with the CT200h. Ford Fiesta is a world car, meaning that it's sold around the world in as close to a single specification as possible. There are minor differences under the skin, as American safety specs are just different enough from European or Asian to require such, but a North American Fiesta still looks nearly identical to its foreign counterparts. With one exception. While the rest of the world has only hatchback versions of the Fiesta, in two- or four-door form (three or five counting the hatch as a "door"), we get the four-door hatch and a four-door sedan.

Conventional thinking in the auto industry is that hatchbacks are seen as entry-level, bottom-feeder "econoboxes", with a smattering of performance models. Hatch sales are far less than ten percent of total passenger cars, so Ford's strategy seemed to make sense. Except that in early sales, 60% of Fiesta buyers have opted for the hatch. Still, that's a sizable 40% for the sedan, and the mix could change. In the Fiesta sedan lineup, that means SEL, not the base S or mid-level SE. Toyota Reports October 2010 Sales

Toyota Motor Sales (TMS), U.S.A., Inc., today reported October sales of 145,474 units, a decrease of 0.9 percent from the same period last year, on a daily selling rate basis (DSR).  On a raw volume basis, unadjusted for 27 selling days in October 2010, compared to 28 selling days in October 2009, TMS sales were down 4.4 percent compared to the same period last year.

Toyota Division recorded sales of 124,383 vehicles, a decrease of 2.8 percent from the year-ago month, on a DSR basis.  On a raw volume basis, Toyota Division sales were down 6.2 percent from last October.  Lexus Division reported sales of 21,091 units for the month, up 12.2 percent over October 2009, on a DSR basis.  Volume-wise, Lexus Division sales were up 8.1 percent compared to the year-ago month.

Best Emiossion car

A few weeks ago, in an effort to prove that they continue to be the dimmest bulb in the chandelier, Edmunds felt the need to do a story that claimed that the Chevrolet Volt is not an electric car, but a hybrid. They are wrong, of course (see link to that story below).

Well now some auto media outlets, in an effort to show that they can be every bit as dim*, are trying to dispute Nissan's claim that the new Leaf is a ZERO emissions vehicle. The accusation is based upon the argument that in order to make the electricity to power the Leaf that "bad" fuel generating sources may be used; such as coal.

While it is accurate to say that electrical power is often created by non-green resources, it is a gross distortion to say that the Leaf is not a ZERO emissions vehicle. Just because a worker on the Nissan assembly line hit his wife, you wouldn't say that the Nissan Leaf is a wife-beater car. The Nissan Leaf does not have any engine emissions - it does not emit any of the gases or particulates that are associated with typical internal combustion engines.
